5th Generation Guide
Dick Watson's family roots lie deep in Glenorchy - tracing to 1885. His
great, great grandmother was the first European woman to settle in Glenorchy,
his great, great grandfather was the first hotelier there - transporting tourists
in buggies - and his great, great uncle was a mountaineering guide.
Each generation continued the family tradition of tourism and hospitality,
so it's no surprise Dick followed in his ancestors footsteps - his son Gordon
also drives part-time for Dick's 4WD company Mountainland Rovers.
Dick worked in Sheelite mines for many years, owned and operated a gold mining
business for 14 years and he's also driven jet-boats commercially in Glenorchy
and overseas. |

Dick owned the Glenorchy Hotel for 4 years and is a founding member of the
Glenorchy Race Day, which he hasn't missed in the 45 years it's been running.
Dick was a key cog in building the Kinloch/Greenstone Road, the link from Elfin Bay
to Mt. Nicholas and various parts of the Glenorchy/Queenstown Road.
He loves nothing more than to show clients his piece of Paradise, offering
4WD tours to the heart of the Rees Valley and up to Lennox Falls, as well as
Middle Earth Lord of the Rings tours and customised tours around the greater
Glenorchy area.
