Bring Back Our Birds
Mountainland Rovers is aiming to increase our already very successful Stoat trapping programme
In the last 3 years we have taken 240 stoats, 39 rats, 3 ferret’s and 3 ferrel cats from the Rees Valley at the head of Lake Wakatipu
As a result of this we have already greatly increased the survival rate of various bird chicks that nest in this valley
The most noticeable of these are the Banded Dotterel, Oyster Catcher, Turns, and Parakeets, and some we have never seen before.
We aim to by the way of sponsored traps increase the number of traps so as to blanket trap the entire area at the head of the Lake in order to give a bigger buffer zone for these birds.
