Bring Back Our Birds

Mountainland Rovers is aiming to increase our already very successful Stoat trapping programme

In the last 3 years we have taken 240 stoats, 39 rats, 3 ferret’s and 3 ferrel cats from the Rees Valley at the head of Lake Wakatipu

As a result of this we have already greatly increased the survival rate of various bird chicks that nest in this valley

The most noticeable of these are the Banded Dotterel, Oyster Catcher, Turns, and Parakeets, and some we have never seen before.

We aim to by the way of sponsored traps increase the number of traps so as to blanket trap the entire area at the head of the Lake in order to give a bigger buffer zone for these birds.

DOC ( Department of Conservation) has in place a programme in the Dart and Routeburn and working with them we aim to increase the area of trapping

This is a huge under taking and involves hundreds of hours of man power and vehicle expense to service these traps over the next two years

By sponsoring a trap or traps at $200 +gst per trap we offer you:

  • a 50% discount for two on our amazing Rees Valley Tour any time with in the next two years
  • A link to your web site via our web site
  • A monthly report in the Mountain Scene ( Queenstown local paper) of the top 20 catching traps
  • A full list of all trap sponsors in the first monthly report in this paper and our web page also queenstown.com and Glenorchy.com
  • A proud supporter sticker for you to display

So if you want to be part of this programme “Bring Back Our Birds” contact us through the Contact area on this site.
